This will be our 9th Summer Workshop and over that time my philosophy for it has remained clear. While our classes are designed to build technical strength and body awareness, I see this as only a small element in the definition of evolving as a dance artist. As a choreographer, I prize the individual qualities that each of us possess. It’s what draws us to this remarkable art form. With this workshop we give support to explore and enhance those individual strengths as dancers and creative artists in an environment meant to challenge both body and thought. Providing a supportive community and the time to discover these new challenges is essential. This summer, we will be heading up to The College at Brockport in beautiful upstate NY for our workshop, and I know in every way it will serve as the background to what I believe is a unique workshop. We are all striving for new ideas, answers and questions. That’s all we can ask of ourselves as artists. I hope you’ll join us.
~Doug

92nd Street Y Harkness Dance Center Residency

February 25-May 15, 2008

Teaching Schedule
Special Offer!
Costs

Join Doug Varone and Dancers for ongoing technique classes and special workshops, with current and former company members. Classes run Monday through Thursday, 10am-12pm. The company is teaching exclusively at the 92nd Street Y! Teaching schedules will be updated on our website regularly.

All classes will be taught on a rotating basis by Doug Varone and company members, ensuring a rich overview of styles and perspectives for each student. Investigating the line of human movement and how it can affect the broader strokes of our dancing is at the center of these highly technical, movement based classes. Through the expansive use of the back and limbs, Varone's style will be explored through an emphasis on breath, strength, dynamic lyricism and musicality.
