His dances have been commissioned by leading presenters such as The American Dance Festival, the Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival, the Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing ARts and The Joyce Theater. Varone is the recipient of numerous honors including a Guggenheim Fellowship, numerous fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, anda New York Dance and Performance Award (Bessie) for Sustained Achievement in Choreography.
